Note, this is not a politically correct book, it talks about certain members of the current administration in ways which may be upsetting to those of the leftist persuasion.

Please recognize artistic license is used throughout this story. Any tense disparities are the author's view of the story as it's written.

The Shelter, book 3, the Aftermath takes place immediately after the events in book 2. The battle with the Russians is over, Jay, Tony and John have been wounded, Jay the most seriously. While Jay’s life hangs in the balance, a battle for his soul and the souls of his community is being fought. Forces of light and dark are pulling Jay to join their side, the decision he makes will have far reaching consequences for him and his neighbors.

The American Army arrived at the scene of the battle just as the communities mines and smoke exploded hiding the entrance to the shelter and killing many Russians. US Army Captain Black is intrigued by what he and his people discover when they arrive at Jay’s home, an almost completed medieval castle with fighting trenches and the beginning of a moat. The Captain orders his people to discover what happened to the owners of the castle and the farm.

Ricky is working to undermine Jay’s authority and in his mind, hopefully, take over as the leader of the Shelter. When he does, he’s decided he’s going to make a hell of a lot of changes.

Meanwhile, the world economy has come to a stop, paper money has no value, most international banks have failed, there isn’t anyone in a position of authority who is able to place a value on a dollar, Euro or Yen.

China is settling in as the new rulers of Hawaii while still demanding the administration hand over California as payment for the trillions of outstanding debt.

The Aftermath tells the story of Jay and his family trying to once again rebuild in a world gone crazy.

It has been a while since I read The Shelter Books by Ira Tabankin. In writing this review, I can only say that I enjoyed the series, that the writing was good and entertaining, and that the story was compelling enough for me to buy more in the series. I expect writing to be grammatically correct enough to not distract me, to flow, to be compelling, and to be complete enough in each story to satisfy me in and of that particular book. I look for more of Mr. Tabankin's work now.

The Shelter The Aftermath eBook Ira Tabankin Dianne Mayhew Reviews

It's solid. However, the editing is pretty bad. Lots of places for "booby traps" are instead "bobby" and lots of concrete is 'concete', and sometimes words are just missing.

Kind of lol, but if you see past that it's pretty straightforward reading. I finished book 1 in a few hours, same with 2 and this one I skimmed and finished it in 2.5. I also read very fast, and comprehend it. Ricky is basically completely predictable, Jay is predictable. John isn't as much and is my fav character even though he's not at the forefront a lot.

I don't know, it's cool I guess.
I enjoyed the book except for three major issues; 1) Not every liberal or democrat is a lazy short sighted entitled sob, heck a good number of republicans are just as bad if not worse (Bush anyone?).2) so far in each book of this particular series there are always two groups attacking the shelter (or farm). Why always two? Same action again and again in each book. 3) china taking over a US state...Hawaii and the cartel and isis invading the US while the military is severely hamstring from being combat effective by its own government is ridiculous. Then again this a fanatical right wing book.
Loved it!
GREAT SERIES! Can't wait for the next book.
The third book was very boring. I could not wait for it to end which seemed like forever! Book one and two were so much better.
Very entertaining and lots of fun.
Long read
